Since
1992, choreographer Anouk van Dijk has created performances full of fanciful
virtuoso dance within a strong theatrical context. As part of Days of Dutch
Culture / Window on the Netherlands she will present her recent choreography Amour
Fou in St Petersburg on 22 and 23 September. The dancers on stage always relate to each other as individuals within the same space. Nature and development of these relations are at the core of Van Dijk's performances. All her dance pieces show vulnerable people, failing hopelessly at contacting each other, and yet they keep on trying. Her attraction to is as large as her fascination for people's urges to keep on trying over and over again. Anouk van Dijk's views and methods give her dance pieces a strong theatricality. Amour Fou, which deals with desire, holds a special place within her oeuvre.
