19 September: book presentation

St Petersburg's tercentenary is reason for publishing house Benerus to present a book with original drawings by Russian artist Vladimir Nenasjev about the travels of Peter the Great to the West (1697 - 1698), which were the basis for the modernisation of Russia and for the foundation of the city of St Petersburg. In his cartoons, Nenasjev shows a mild, humorous view on this first important meeting of Russia and the West.

22 september: debate about Russian translations of Dutch literature

Since in April 2003 the Bibliography of Russian translations of Dutch literature was published, the whole of the Dutch-speaking Russian world and Russian-speaking Dutch people know what two centuries of Russian translations of Dutch and Flemish literature have resulted in. Following this publication, Professor Waegemans (Leuven) will lead a debate at which the author of the bibliography and several professors of St Petersburg State University will be present. Among the debaters will be Irina Michalova, who wrote an elaborate introduction to the Bibliography Russian translations of Dutch literature. The author of the work, Werner Scheltjens, works for the Netherlands - Russian Archive Centre in the Dutch city of Groningen.
