St
Petersburg's tercentenary is reason for publishing house Benerus to present a
book with original drawings by Russian artist Vladimir Nenasjev about the
travels of Peter the Great to the West (1697 - 1698), which were the basis for
the modernisation of Russia and for the foundation of the city of St Petersburg.
In his cartoons, Nenasjev shows a mild, humorous view on this first important
meeting of Russia and the West.

about Russian translations of Dutch literature
Since
in April 2003 the Bibliography of Russian translations of Dutch literature was
published, the whole of the Dutch-speaking Russian world and Russian-speaking
Dutch people know what two centuries of Russian translations of Dutch and
Flemish literature have resulted in. Following this publication, Professor
Waegemans (Leuven) will lead a debate at which the author of the bibliography
and several professors of St Petersburg State University will be present. Among
the debaters will be Irina Michalova, who wrote an elaborate introduction to the
Bibliography Russian translations of Dutch literature. The author of the work,
Werner Scheltjens, works for the Netherlands - Russian Archive Centre in the
Dutch city of Groningen.
