Breakdance Battle

Into these Arms is a 'rap opera' of about 30 minutes. Based upon a given story, the boys have written the rap texts themselves. Music will be by Pink Floyd (parts of The Wall) and Rammstein. Furthermore, the boys have arranged bits of music to which they will rap their lyrics live. One girl will be dancing in the rap opera. Film images will be part of the choreography. The rap opera will include movements from acrobatics, gymnastics, clip dance, modern dance, break dance, improvisation and the boys' own movements.

The story is about a boy and his friends who bully a homeless boy and steal something from him. Another group of boys rushes to help the homeless kid, which leads to a fight between the two groups. The gangs agree to compete in a break dance battle later.

Boys Action is part of the Foundation for Amateur Dancing in Arnhem, a town in the eastern part of the Netherlands. The foundation aims to promote theatre dance for children and especially for boys.

Boys Action tries to achieve this by:

  • organising dance classes for boys with teaching methods focused on the boys' own movements, culture and experiences
  • creating theatre dance productions and presenting these in performances
  • organising cultural exchanges with similar organisations in the Netherlands and abroad
The children dancing with Boys Action are all between 8 and 16 years of age.
