Tineke Westerhoff, Katja for her Russian friends, is an artist who has been painting icons for almost 20 years now. An impressive exhibition of icons in the Louvre in Paris made her decide to take lessons herself. She was taught painting icons and water-colours in Russian towns like Kostroma. Her special style of modern painting shows Russian influences mixed with expressive colours. Her work can be seen at exhibitions in the Netherlands regularly. In 2003 she was asked to exhibit her work in the former Dutch church in St. Petersburg. By selling her art, Tineke raises money to supply Russian children’s homes with medicine, cloths, food and other necessities.
