Niklison The Neverlands
Dates: 29 and 30 September Location: Baltic House
Information The Neverlands reflects the struggle I feel every morning when I am confronted with the way in which I have to behave and the way in which I want to behave. The more I grow and develop, the more difficult this becomes. Because the older I get, the more 'seriously' I must behave. I struggle with this feeling every day: I know I am not the only one in this. Like Peter Pan I make an effort to change, transform and to disguise the reality. Like Peter Pan, I want to confront people with their own behaviour and deconstruct people. I want to express my own reality in my work, and affect people by expressing in words and body language what we all feel. With The Neverlands I want to put my finger on our feelings and our awareness that there is a choice for everything, and that we can opt for a life full of misery or for a life full of magic…! With this, T'he Neverlands reflects on my sense of reality and on my dream, but even more on my daily struggle between those two!!! The Argentinian Kris Niklison lives in Amsterdam. After performing the leading role in Cirque du Soleil, she decided to direct her own performances. This resulted in work with physical theatre combined with aerial circus techniques, music and (autobiographic) texts as inspiring elements. In the course of time, she has refined her own style and aerial language into a personal and vulnerable form of theatre in which she lets her audience enjoy her highflying acrobatic postures, but also creates some vulnerable and identifiable moments. She received various international awards for her performances.
