Programme – Days of Dutch Culture Koninklijke
Harmonie St. Philomena Chèvremont From Black to Green
Dates: 20 -
22
September Locations: in front of the St. Catherina church, Philharmonie Fringe
programme, 23 September, 19.00 hrs: concert with the Rotterdams Jongenskoor
at the Philharmonie. Theme: Dutch Amateur Music. The Koninklijke
Harmonie Sint Philomena Chèvremont from Kerkrade, the Netherlands, that was
founded in 1899, is the only brass band that will perform during Days of Dutch
Culture / Window on the Netherlands. At the moment sixty musicians are part of
the band. Conductor Bert
Dirks and the 60 musicians of the Harmonie will stay in Russia for the period of
18 to 24 September. The weeks’ programme that will be presented by the
Harmonie is special for its quality and variety. It includes a musical and
audiovisual presentation of a typical wind orchestra as it is part of society in
the Dutch province of Limburg. One year out of the 104-year-history of
Philomena represents all musical activities that have taken place within a
single year of the orchestra’s life. Furthermore, the change of the societal
and economic situation from ‘black’ to ‘green’, meaning from the mining
region Oostelijke Mijnstreek to the green environment of the Parkstad Limburg
will be interpreted musically. Concerts are planned to take place at the
university and the roman-catholic St. Katharina Church. Another concert will
probably be held at the world famous State Hermitage museum. This concert will
contain compositions that complement the Cobra exposition, organised by the
Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
