Programme - Days of Dutch Culture

Poetic Enterprises / Spatial Effects Waterwalk

Dates: 26-28 September

Location: Beach of the Peter & Paul Fortress

A Waterwalk is an inflatable object that allows people to walk on the river Neva. Just get in, zip up and there you go.....

A great number of transparent inflatable spheres will be kept afloat in the river Neva. Performers and members of the audience can get inside and move the spheres forward across the water like wheels. 'Waterwalks' is a tribute to the seventeenth century ships that once sailed the Gulf of Finland. The large volume of air inside the spheres allows participants to walk on water for several hours. The spheres will be accompanied by speed boats. There will be separate starting and landing points. As a special request from Mr Balachonsky, the 'Airground', a monumental inflatable construction which is well-known in the Netherlands, will be recreated for the St. Petersburg children.

...'We were asked to create a giant inflatable pig. Botschuiver could do this and the result was immortalised on the cover of the memorable Pink Floyd album Animals: a gigantic pink pig floating between two chimneys of the London Battersea Power Station...' Peter van Brummelen, het Parool, 23 May 2003.
