The Premsela Foundation for Dutch Design, has take the
initiative for the redecoration of a café in the Baltic House in St.
Petersburg with in the style of Dutch design. The café will be open to all
public, not just the theatre audience. Days of Dutch Culture in September 2003
will be occasion for the opening of this special theatre café. The idea for
the café is based on the renowned Dutch Design café in the MoMa, the Museum
of Modern Art in New York that has made Dutch Design famous in New York.
The
café in the busy State theatre of the
Baltic House will be turned into a live show room of Dutch Design so visitors
of the theatre will not only get an idea about what Dutch design is, they will
also be using it when they are having their drinks.
The
redecoration will be carried out by artists of Droog
Design, a design studio based on a network of international designers.
Amsterdam artist Franck Bragigand will start the work by painting the
whole room, from the floor to the ceiling. Renny Ramakers of Droog Design will
furnish the café with tables, chairs, glassware, pottery and cutlery by Dutch
designers. During the festivities the café's staff will wear specially
designed aprons. They will hand out special menu's and serve Dutch chocolates.
The Premsela Foundation has chosen to work with Droog Design because of their
experience with large-scale projects and the good reputation the studio has
within the Netherlands and abroad.
